Richard Lubin has been deeply involved with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for more than three decades. He and his wife, Nancy, have supported breakthroughs in research and the evolution of patient care while directly investing in the development of the next generation of physician-scientists through the Lubin Family Foundation Scholar Award, which annually provides four Lubin Scholars with financial assistance alongside enhanced mentorship as they begin their journeys in academic medicine.
When plans were announced to build the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital at Dana-Farber, the Lubins saw another opportunity to help further the mission of Dana-Farber by making a $35 million gift to the Future of Cancer Care Fund, which provides resources to the areas of greatest need at Dana-Farber, including the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital. Their gift will be celebrated with a floor named in their honor within the new building. For Richard and Nancy, this gift represents both a continuation of their longstanding commitment to Dana-Farber and an investment in the future of cancer research and patient care.
“In terms of taking care of patients and finding cures and new treatments for cancer, there’s no place I can think of in the world that’s as important as Dana-Farber. It was easy for us to determine that anything we could do to help make the future cancer hospital endeavor come to fruition was something we wanted to do,” said Richard.
As a Trustee since the early 1990s, Richard has seen the ways Dana-Farber has grown, adapted, and met the needs not only of patients, but those around the world who benefit from exceptional cancer research and care at Dana-Farber. The combination of innovative clinical treatments and compassion for each patient has always been at the forefront of the mission and remains among the factors that are foundational to the Lubins’ support. Richard has been active in helping advance some outstanding accomplishments over the years. And he notes that a critical component of this success is in the people, sharing that the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital will be influential in those continued efforts.
“I think the addition of the state-of-the-art inpatient facility will enable Dana-Farber to continue to attract and retain the caliber of people—both on the research and clinical care sides—that it has, allowing it to continue to be a leader in research and patient care outcomes,” said Richard.
I can think of nothing as exciting and worthwhile as being supportive of Dana-Farber.

With the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital groundbreaking expected this fall, Richard and Nancy feel assured in their investment in the future of cancer care. They know that their gift will allow Dana-Farber to provide world-class care, while also making patients comfortable, in providing a facility that fosters the intersection of clinical care and research in real time.
“I can think of nothing as exciting and worthwhile as being supportive of Dana-Farber,” said Richard.
