For four decades, the Dana Building at 44 Binney Street was a place of hope where cancer patients came for treatment and researchers worked to expand what was possible in cancer care. Now home to research laboratories and administrative offices, the building marks its 50th anniversary this year. Stephen Farber, the son of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute founder Sidney Farber, MD, stood with the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy as Dr. Farber’s vision and mission were celebrated at the dedication ceremony on June 28, 1976. Luminaries including then-Prince Charles, former President Ronald Reagan, boxing and civil rights icon Muhammad Ali, and Red Sox legend Ted Williams came to visit over the years. The Dana Foundation, established by Charles A. and Eleanor Dana, made the building possible, launching a half century of care, discovery, and progress against cancer.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is fortunate and grateful to have descendants of both Farber and Charles Dana serve as trustees over the years. John Farber served 19 years; Charlie Dana, 28; Stephen Farber has served 53 years; and the newest member, William (Bill) Farber Santis, 11.
