The American Society of Hematology (ASH) funds groundbreaking research on blood and bone marrow disorders. Over the past year, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researchers have earned a total of $845,000 in competitive ASH grants.
Each Junior Faculty Scholar Award winner was granted $150,000. Recipient Roger Belizaire, MD, PhD, will continue to bridge gaps in the understanding of VEXAS syndrome, an inflammatory disorder that causes blood cell abnormalities. Zuzana Tothova, MD, PhD, aims to advance our understanding of blood cancer development in patients with inherited mutations in the gene RUNX1. Reid Merryman, MD, will continue to research immunotherapies for follicular lymphoma as alternatives to current, more toxic treatments. Additional ASH awards were granted to:
- Erin Parry, MD, PhD – 2024 Basic/Translational Fellow to Faculty Scholar Award: $125,000
- Nicoletta Cieri, MD, PhD – 2024 Basic/Translational Research Fellow Scholar Award: $100,000
- Frederick Tsai, MD, PhD – 2024 Research Training Award for Fellows: $70,000
- Miriam Osei, MD, MPH – 2025 Hematology Inclusion Pathway Fellow Award: $100,000
“ASH is proud to recognize the work of Dana-Farber grantees and their innovative efforts to improve the lives of present and future blood cancer patients around the world,” said Belinda Avalos, MD, ASH president. We look forward to seeing the lifesaving impact of Dana-Farber ASH grantees’ dedicated research in the coming years.
