Dear Friends,

Science has long been the catalyst for transformative cancer care. More recently, we’ve witnessed revolutionary advances that have benefited patients and those who hold them dear.

In my time working with this community of generous donors, I have come to realize how deeply you understand and appreciate the immense value of scientific research. That is why your support is so impactful and continues to serve as a bedrock of hope for Dana-Farber—especially now as we navigate the unsteady reality caused by federal policy that impacts research funding. We are assured by your investment in scientific discovery that supports all aspects of cancer treatment and care. In the following pages are stories of incredible philanthropy that has enabled prevention and early detection, as well as groundbreaking treatments and accelerated scientific breakthroughs. You play a vital role in shaping a community that champions science as the foundation of every solution.

Our community includes tremendous donors and volunteers. One example featured in this issue is the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC), which is singularly focused on elevating the importance of basic science. Comprised of volunteer runners and fundraisers, the DFMC hosted roughly 500 runners from across the country and the world for the 129th Boston Marathon®, with a goal of raising over $8 million for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research. Basic science is a critical element of Dana-Farber’s unique commitment to research and clinical care propelled by support from our generous donor community.

As this issue goes to press, Dr. Ben Ebert will have completed his first year as President and CEO of Dana-Farber. In this inaugural year, Dr. Ebert, a world-renowned medical oncologist and researcher, has elevated our commitment to scientific research, and alongside our donors, is further advancing opportunities for more preventive treatments and promising cancer care options. His plan for an even more innovative and collaborative Dana-Farber is grounded in the support of our generous donor community. It is because of you that the work of our mission continues—bolder than ever before.

With deep appreciation,

Melany N. Duval
