Eliezer Van Allen, MD, was honored as the first incumbent of the Chandra Nohria Family Chair for AI in Cancer Research at Dana-Farber, at a celebration in November 2024. Endowed with a gift from Institute Trustee and Vice Chair of The Dana-Farber Campaign Monica Chandra and her husband, Nitin Nohria, this is the first chair in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) established at the Institute.
As Chief of the Division of Population Sciences, Van Allen develops algorithms to dissect high-dimensional data directly from cancer patients and uses these insights to address major open questions in the field. Van Allen’s research in computational biology and machine learning is helping to shape how AI can be applied to cancer medicine and research, including prevention and early detection, and has established the field of clinical computational oncology to advance precision cancer medicine worldwide.
