The Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund community mourn the passing of Larry Lucchino, longtime Institute Trustee and Chairman of the Jimmy Fund who died peacefully on April 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. We gratefully remember him as a committed champion who improved the lives of cancer patients everywhere through his incomparable leadership, dedication, and generosity.

As a three-time cancer survivor treated at Dana-Farber, Larry felt an obligation to give back to the Institute and did so in every possible way. An Institute Trustee since 2001, Larry served on numerous board committees and helped spearhead two successful comprehensive campaigns, including as a member of The Dana-Farber Campaign Cabinet. In 2016, he was named Chairman of the Jimmy Fund, serving as its public spokesperson and lead ambassador to the corporate community, professional sports teams, and donors across the globe. Larry strengthened the Jimmy Fund’s 71-year partnership with the Boston Red Sox on numerous fronts as team President and CEO from 2002 to 2015, including by establishing the annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon in 2002 and extending this partnership to the Worcester Red Sox starting in 2021.

At Dana-Farber, Larry’s exceptional legacy will always inspire our community, and his impact on patients and their families will endure for generations to come. For all those fortunate to have known him, along with the many more who benefitted from his extraordinary efforts, he will be deeply missed.
