Enduring impact through endowed chairs at Dana-Farber

Spring 2024
By Brittany Flaherty

One of the most powerful ways that donors can make a lasting difference is by endowing a faculty position in perpetuity through establishing a Dana-Farber Chair. A key priority for The Dana-Farber Campaign, endowed chairs honor and recognize distinguished faculty members, provide invaluable financial support, and act as an important tool to retain and recruit world-class talent.

During The Dana-Farber Campaign, generous donors have established 18 new Dana-Farber Chairs—more than doubling the number of Dana-Farber endowed chairs since the start of the campaign in 2017. The newly established chairs provide support for leaders in cancer prevention, cancer care equity, nursing, psychosocial oncology and palliative care, head and neck oncology, leukemia, lymphoma, colorectal cancer, and more.

“Holding this chair is one of the greatest honors of my professional career. Even more so, that it was made possible by the Lunder Family, whom I have known and whose friendship I have treasured since childhood, has truly touched my heart.”

Richard Stone, MD, Lunder Family Chair in Leukemia at Dana-Farber

Dana-Farber is home to a vast community of passionate experts across an enormous range of disciplines whose lifesaving research requires sustained support. Among the most important investments in the acceleration of scientific discovery is the talent brought to bear at the laboratory bench and the patient bedside—our “human capital.” An endowed donor-named chair enables our distinguished faculty members to explore truly novel ideas and conduct research that will lead to transformative discoveries in cancer science and improved outcomes for our patients.
